The STAR of the Week is Southwark
Just ½ miles south east of Central London, Southwark is located immediately south of London Bridge. Massive amounts of money have been injected into Southwark’s regeneration, resulting in one of London’s most successful makeover. Famous for its old inns and taverns, Southwark is also the historical home of the capital’s arts and entertainments industry. The activity of this area is mainly focused on the banks of the river, as a consequence this part of the city is mostly populated by young professionals and artists due to its proximity to the center and low property prices. Although Southwark has been completely transformed, the area symbolised one of the highest rates of child poverty in London
Top attractions are:
- Southwark Cathedral
- The Shard, London’s tallest building
- Tate Modern gallery
- Borough market
- Shakespeare’s Globe and the Old Vic
Transport-wise, the area is well-connected thanks to the tube and train lines present in Southwark, London Bridge, Elephant & Castle, Waterloo and Borugh Stations.
