In the borough of Tower Hamlets, E1 area include Spitalfields, Stepney, Whitechapel and Wapping and bounded by Barbican on the west, Benthal Green on the north, Mile End on the east and Tower of London on the south. The resident population are of varied ethnic origin and it has been for a long time a poor and working-class neighbourhood. Nowadays is particularly popular among students, young artists and musician crowd and in particular Whitechapel is populated by a large Asian community gathered around Brick Lane, primarily Bangladeshis who are the most visible migrant group.
